First Music Video
I am not fully sure if this is the first music video I ever saw, but I know that Hanson was the first cassette tape I ever owned and I remember this music video. My parents never really let me watch a lot of TV so I do not remember to many music videos from my youth. I first saw the Hanson video at a friend’s house and I remember her squealing with delight as it came on. She turned up the volume and the room filled with the sugar coated pop song. I can remember listening to their music all the time and how everyone in my class was obsessed with Hansen. I actually thought that the two younger siblings were girls till someone in my class corrected me. Not a proud moment for me. You could obviously see where my confusion came from, the long hair. I cannot imagine at all why I would be into Hanson; because I think there music is terrible now. But back then it was what was cool along with the spice girls and N’Sync. There is nothing much I like that came out of the 90’s. It was during Christmas when I received my first cd/ tape player, along with the Hanson cassette. I was so excited I ran to my room to play it, but my parents made me come back and wait for my family to finish opening their gifts. Today now I cannot claim to like them any longer. My taste in music has obviously changed along with the times. Who knows, I could think that what I listen to now is trash another ten years down the road. But that is what is great about music, there is always something out there to fit your taste or mood.

I could never forget the Hanson brothers! I remember loving them back in my day. One of my neighbors, she was my really good friend then, used to jump on our beds while blasting their songs in our rooms, sing and dance to it. We used to pretend and act as if we were dating of the boys. I remember liking the youngest brother and she liked the oldest one, because he was the oldest! We always would say how cute they were and would aww over them when their video came on. I actually heard this song on the radio this summer and it made me laugh!
Hanson, now that was the only boy band that I actually liked. Forget about LFO, Backstreet Boys, 98 degrees, and Nsync-they are all the same: predictable choreographed boys with bad highlights and permed hair. Hanson, however, was the “anti” boy band. They had the long hair, they did not conform like all the other ones. Plus they still had their family roots and values. MMmBop was the first song I heard by them. And it is a good one, really catchy. My sister and I would rock out to it constantly back in elementary school. But it actually is not my favorite song of theirs. “Man from Milwaukee” is; it is just a better song, and not everyone knows that song. And if I do remember correctly, Hanson’s first album was one of the first Cds I had back in the day.
